Professor Alec Shepley is the Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Arts and Society at Wrexham University

His Artistic Research has attracted funding from the Arts & Humanities Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the British Council, the Arts Council of England, Public Health Wales and the Arts Council of Wales. Alec is Co-I on the AHRC-funded project Public Map Platform and Co-I on the EPSRC-funded Network+ project Ecological Citizens and he has an interest in the role of creative methods in co-creating community narratives.
Alec originally trained in fine art and his practice-based research explores the provisional, fragmentary, and incomplete within contemporary art practice. His work navigates the spaces between art, critical theory, and social engagement, often blurring boundaries between artist, audience, and site. He works intuitively with process-based, and site-responsive methodologies, to access transitional spaces as platforms for dialogue, highlighting impermanence, hope, and the utopian potential of art.
