Dr Matthew Fox is an architect, lecturer and researcher in sustainable architecture and innovative natural construction materials at the University of Plymouth.
Matthew specialises in the synthesis between scientific laboratory experimentation and creative practical design solutions. This was exemplified through the Interreg funded CobBauge project, where Matthew took a laboratory optimised natural earth and fibre material and developed a novel method for using it to construct buildings.
As project Architect on the first CobBauge building, Matthew coordinated with engineers and builders to test and hone design details and methodological approaches. The success from this building has led to successive CobBauge architecture commissions for Matthew, with one exploring how CobBauge might comply with the PassivHaus standards.
Prior to the University of Plymouth, Matthew worked at Gaia Architects in Edinburgh, where he was project architect on one of Scotland’s first PassivHaus dwellings, which was formed from Brettstapel massive timber construction.
