Johanna Gibbons is a Founding Partner of J&L Gibbons.

Johanna Gibbons RDI is Founding Partner of J&L Gibbons, an award-winning landscape practice established in 1986 and Director of social enterprise Landscape Learn. Jo is a Fellow of the Landscape Institute, Fellow of the RSA and Royal Geographical Society.

She was named a Royal Designer for Industry for her ‘pioneering and influential work combining design with activism, education and professional practice’. Currently she is RDI Keeper, the first Landscape Architect to hold this prestigious position. Jo is core Research Partner of Urban Mind a cross-disciplinary project lead by Kings College London and associated research concerning extreme heat and mental health in urban environments.

Johanna has an international profile as a member of the International Scientific Committee for the World Forum on Urban Forests, developed by the Politecnico di Milano and the Society of Silviculture of Forest ecology (SISEF), as an international design juror for Europan and the Holcim Foundation committed to sustainable design.

She is widely respected for her design ethos and approach embracing ecology, urban planning, conservation, community and the arts, with a rigorous focus on climate change adaptation, social need, well-being and building for biodiversity. Her many award-winning, collaborative and innovative designs and engagement strategies, mostly within the public realm, span over four decades of practice, from urban regeneration, community gardens and estate planning to cemeteries, cathedrals, cultural institutions, colleges and museums. Most recently her practice has completed The Natural History Museum London’s Urban Nature Project and The Horniman Museum and Gardens Nature + Love project.
