Future Observatory Research Manager
Salary: up to £35,000

Future Observatory and the Design Museum are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Research Manager to manage and deliver an expanded three-year portfolio of research and an internal programme of supporting activities (such as mentoring, upskilling, crits and design sprints). The Research Manager will manage an extensive portfolio of AHRC-funded design research, comprising up to 150 awards ranging from £40,000 to £4m, and a network of over 100 higher education institutions and 75 industry, local government and third sector partners. They will line manage one research coordinator.
The role requires a great communicator who is efficient, analytical and creative. The ideal candidate would be someone excited to build, manage and sustain a new research portfolio, and will relish the opportunity to become a member of a fast-moving, expanding programme and team.
Future Observatory Research Coordinator
Salary: up to £24,000

We are looking for an organised and knowledgeable Future Observatory Research Coordinator to assist in delivering an expanded three-year Future Observatory programme of research and programming. Working closely with the Future Observatory Research Manager, they will support and coordinate an extensive portfolio of design research, comprising up to 150 awards ranging from £40,000 to £4m, and a network of over 100 higher education institutions and 75 industry, local government and third sector partners.
The Research Coordinator will support and maintain the Future Observatory research network, communicating across multiple stakeholder groups such as universities, independent research organisations, industry, third sector, local authority, and individual/freelance designers as well as colleagues across the museum and UKRI. The role requires a highly organised, creative applicant who is an excellent communicator and record keeper. The successful candidate will be a flexible team player who is able to adapt and respond to change quickly, within a fast-paced, expanding programme.
Future Observatory Community Manager

We are looking for a dynamic and creative Community Manager to manage and build the Future Observatory brand and to coordinate on all programme communications and funding announcements. The role will actively develop the Future Observatory’s network and seek external opportunities for partnerships and programming.
The Community Manager will report to the Future Observatory Programme Manager with a dotted line to the Design Museum’s Head of Communications and will work closely and collaboratively with the Design Museum communications department, as well as AHRC and UKRI communications representatives and partner researchers within HEI, industry and third sector partnerships. They will be responsible for all Future Observatory public outreach, including website content, newsletters, and social media content, and will work independently to identify opportunities for growth and expansion.
Future Observatory Coordinator

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and organised Future Observatory Coordinator to assist in delivering an expanded three-year Future Observatory programme. Reporting to and working closely with the Future Observatory Programme Manager and providing administrative support to the Future Observatory directorate, they will focus on the operational delivery of the programme to bring together the Design Museum’s network and expertise with academics, policy makers and business to bring their vision to life.
The Future Observatory Coordinator will be an important point of contact for external project participants, supporters, and colleagues across the museum and UKRI. The role requires a highly organised, outward looking person who is happy to use their initiative and work autonomously. The successful candidate will be a flexible team player who is able to adapt and respond to change quickly within a fast-paced and expanding programme.
