Programmed to celebrate the Design Researchers in Residence: Restore exhibition, this event brings influential Fashion Designer Phoebe English together with Sanne Visser, one of our Researchers in Residence.

Building on Phoebe English's work to address the negative environmental impact of the fashion industry and Sanne Visser's research with hairdressers and barbers local to the museum, the discussion will centre around the ethics of material production and sustainability in textile design processes.

Phoebe English

Phoebe founded her eponymous studio in 2011 and creates pieces with close attention to detail and quality, rejecting mass-made or ‘fast’ fashion. She trained at Central Saint Martins where she completed both BA and MA in Fashion. On graduation, she was awarded the L’Oreal Professional Prize, Ungaro Bursary and Chloe Award. In 2021 the studio was an honoree of the Environment category of the Leaders of Change at The Fashion Awards.

Sanne Visser

Sanne is a Researcher in Residence at the Design Museum. She is a PhD researcher and Associate Lecturer at the Centre for Circular Design at Chelsea College (UAL) and runs her own design practice, Studio Sanne Visser.
